Friday Afternoon Incident Update
Friday afternoon, while construction workers were clearing the site with a trackhoe, a worker on the ground was monitoring nearby trees to make sure they did not fall into the power lines.
Unfortunately, the tree he was watching fell into another tree, causing that tree to fall into the power lines and knocking out power to the school.
The worker on the ground sustained minor injuries during the incident. Hazen Police Department, Hazen Fire Department, Southern Paramedic, and Hazen School Administration were immediately on scene. The individual was quickly treated and transported to the hospital.
We also want to recognize our teachers, staff, and school administration for how quickly they responded. When the power went out, students were immediately moved to the gym, and within minutes, staff had developed an alternative plan for safely releasing the kids.
Situations like this are exactly why we prepare. Everyone adjusted on the fly, worked together, and most importantly, kept our students safe.
Thank you to our first responders, school administration, teachers, staff, parents, and everyone who showed patience and helped during the situation. Great teamwork by everyone involved!

The baseball game and SENIOR NIGHT has been rescheduled for Monday at 5:00.
Come out and show your support for the Hazen Hornets as they play their last game against Carlisle.
No Baseball and softball games on Friday 4/25/25. Games will be rescheduled.
The application for school choice is due May 1, 2025.
